Hello & Welcome

About

Hello

I’m going to go ahead and assume you’re here because you’re interested in hiring a photographer for your upcoming nuptials or perhaps, you’re looking for a family photographer. Frankly, if you’re not, then what are you doing here?

Since this is, literally, the “About” page, you’ll probably want to know a little about me.

I’ve been a photographer for over 12 years, with a focus on weddings for 10 years. Luckily, I stay young because of the first portrait I ever took, which hangs in my attic to age for me!

I’ve seen a ridiculous number of weddings in the last decade. Too many to count in the Norfolk area, lots all over the UK, and, every so often, a couple will fly me out to their fancy destination wedding and I try not to get sand in my equipment, even if it does end up everywhere else!

Trust me, when I tell you, I’ve eaten so much cake, like, medically inadvisable amounts of cake! All of this is to say, when you hire me, you get experience and mid-way through the Summer, a photographer who might look like he has a “cake baby” in his belly.

In addition to experience, you can rest assured, I’m fully insured! A lot of my time at weddings is spent walking backwards. So, insurance is handy, just in case I walk backwards into an antique vase. But don’t worry, walking backwards is something I could do standing on my head but then that would just be showing off! I can often be seen backwards walking, with people throwing coloured bits of paper in my face, blowing soapy bubbles in my eyes, or waving sparklers dangerously close to my eyebrows. All this while, at the same time, taking wedding pictures! It has been several years now since I nearly walked backwards and toppled into a fountain, scratched a rolls-royce and tripped over a stray cat! Risk of paralysis aside, there are silver linings, walking backwards has been proven by boffins to increase memory function! Now where was I?

You’ll Like Working With Me If…

  • You are looking for a style and approach to wedding photography that is fun and relaxed, creatively capturing photos that tell the real story of your day.

  • You want authenticity. You’re looking for a moment seeker. You don’t want a photographer telling you or, your guests, what to do, how to act or, how to pose.

  • You love the power of photography to freeze a moment in time. You want pictures, of your cake (before I tuck in!),  your flowers and those other little but important details. But it’s the quirky, in-between moments, the things you might have been a part of but didn’t get a chance to stop and to notice that you really want to see in your wedding album!

  • You’re looking for a photographer who accepts all definitions of love between consenting adults. I strongly support LGBT weddings. Love is love!

  • More than anything else you value having a good time. The details matter but you don’t care so much about formalities or having all the “things” – you just want to have an amazing time, celebrating your love for each other, with your favourite people.

  • You serve fruitcake. I love fruitcake! Do you love fruitcake? Honestly, if my wife would allow me to accept payment in fruitcake, I would. Unfortunately she’s all like, “Rob, the electricity company sent back the last batch of fruitcakes and said they will only accept money! You need to ask your clients for money!”

If this sounds like you, then grab a mug of your favourite and take a look at some of my recent work or, a gander at the blog.

About Me

I live in the beautiful Norfolk Broads with my gorgeous wife and our two children, our 8 (going on 13) year old daughter (the cheeky, too clever for my own good, one) and her little brother (dinosaur obsessed and always hiding my car keys). The best part of my day (nay- my life!) is playing silly games with them.

Aside from being a photographer and a dad, I couldn’t live without my camera, books and music (my musical interests are best described as eclectic). Do ask me about what book I’m staring at these days but maybe not my guilty musical pleasures! When I’m not shooting weddings you’ll find me in a cafe, headphones on, either buried in a good book or, people watching. I’ll often be accompanied by a cup of coffee bigger than my head! After a late night editing and being up early with my kids, it’s a liquid hug for the brain!

Other things I like to do in my spare time include, going to the gym (keeps me fit for weddings so, I can eat all the cake!), trips to the beach with family and friends (there’s nothing like the North Norfolk coast), trips to the cinema, cooking, reading or, relaxing on the sofa with my wife.

Hot Tips on Local Venues

Let me end by saying I’ve been to (nearly) all the venues in town so, feel free to ask my thoughts on them!

If you’re just starting out on the whole wedding planning thing, and you’re keeping it local, take a look at some of these Norfolk wedding venues to get you started. Some of my favourite Norfolk wedding venues are Godwick Hall, Southwood Hall, Bressingham Hall, Hautbois Hall, Holkham Hall, basically all the halls, there’s a lot of halls in Norfolk! Other firm favourites include Weddings at Voewood and Langley Abbey. One of my new favourite outdoor wedding venues is a lovely little spot called The Keeper and the Dell

Booking Me

I can book up pretty quickly for the wedding season. As of December 2019 I have just 5 Saturday dates left available in 2020.  So, please contact me to talk about availability, and of course, ask me any questions you might have. Most people tend to keep their questions wedding photography related, but I maintain that questions about life, the universe and everything are sometimes worth pondering with new clients and also, what kind of wedding cake you should have!

Ok, that’s enough about me. I’d much rather hear about you and your plans.

If you like what you see and would like to check availability for your wedding date, let’s talk!

I was so very nervous about the photos and had even contemplated not hiring a professional photographer as I genuinely do not like having my photo taken. However, from the moment you arrived, your laid back approach and great sense of humour instantly put me at ease. You worked your socks off and I can say, for the first time in my life, I enjoyed having my photo taken! Thank you Rob!

Frequently Asked Questions

Things you might like to know!

How many images will we get?

This depends on a few things – how long your day is, how many guests you have and how hard you hit the dance floor but usually between 450-500 images, each one individually edited by yours truly and available for you to print to your hearts content.

Can we get an album?

Absolutely, I’d recommend it. Better that than a USB gathering dust in a drawer somewhere. Feel free to get in touch and I can talk you through the options. If you’d prefer to make your own book then I offer a digital only option.

Do you work with someone else?

A second photographer is available if you need it but in most situations, it’s not really necessary. I have photographed weddings, by myself, with 200 guests present. I’ll happily advise you if it’s something you really need.

What is your style of wedding photography?

I try to be a fly on the wall but my hygiene is better! I try not to come with an idea of what your wedding should be but work hard to create images that reflect your day. It’s about real moments between people, limited direction and letting you enjoy the day. Want to know more – this page all about my style of photography might be handy!

I feel awkward posing for the camera?

That’s normal. It’s nice to get some portraits on your wedding day but I’ll take my lead from you. I love working with couples who want to relax and enjoy their wedding day. Even when I take your portraits it’s often as simple as letting you enjoy a few, quiet, moments together, while I capture some discrete, candid images to help you remember it by. My approach is as relaxed as you are, with just a little nod to formality. You might not want those group shots right now but guaranteed, your mum will and I aim to keep her happy too!

Can we meet you before we book?

Yes, absolutely. A lot of my bookings come from outside of Norwich and in that case, it’s often easier to Skype but if you are based in Norwich, then it isn’t short of places to grab a coffee or, a cheeky Vimto!  My weekend availability is limited and so, weekday meetings are the norm but get in touch and we’ll get something in the diary that works for you!

Will you travel for our wedding?

Absolutely, I work throughout the UK and have photographed weddings as far away as Portugal and Mallorca!
