Amy & Greg's Voewood Wedding

A Voewood Wedding in North Norfolk

Before we begin, it's only fair I pay credit to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and S Club 7 for their respective influences to the copy in this here blog post! Two bands, I'm fairly sure, aren't often mentioned in the same breath. I'm not ashamed to say I am a bit partial to both of them. And my eclectic taste in music works well here, for, it is to Voewood we go today. A wedding venue in Norfolk that is, most certainly, a little eclectic itself!

Ok... so it's no secret that I love Voewood! It's beyond exceptional. It's kooky, quirky, whimsical and wonderful and many other superlatives beside. It's a place I never tire of returning to. Not far from the North Norfolk coast and the Georgian town of Holt, it's a country house like no other. You honestly have to see it to believe it. And so, when, in 2017, no less than 3 couples chose me to capture their wedding at this extraordinary wedding venue, I was absolutely thrilled.

On Amy and Greg's big day I was joined by Videographer extraordinaire, Mike, from Capture Media. We began with the bride and her bridesmaids in the bridal suite at Voewood, spirits were high and Amy's sister entertained us all, to help Amy with a few nerves.

Afterward, Mike and I made our way to join the groom and groomsmen at a pub near the church. Unfortunately, there was no time for us to grab a pint on this occasion, there was already so much going on and we both set straight to capturing it.

The sun was certainly shining on this bride and groom for their big day, streaming through the windows of the house and their church and adding to the atmosphere as they exchanged their vows in front their friends and family.

As the bells rang out from the Church of the Annunciation, on Friday Market in Little Walsingham (picture perfect this was!), Amy and Greg got into a 1960 Ford Zephyr Mk. II Convertible, an amazing set of wheels in which to be transported back to Voewood. And as they flew away on their Zephyr, I'm fairly sure they felt it more than ever and in that perfect weather, they found a place together 😜

Dashing off ahead of the new Mr and Mrs I got back to Voewood to set up ready for their arrival. The house and gardens looked stunning and Amy and Greg, their friends and family made the most of the dry weather and we made a few portraits outside as they were entertained to the sounds of a jazz band! Drinks on the lawn followed before some cracking speeches and the most wonderful food laid on by Florentina Events, before the evenings entertainment ensued and the couple took to the dance floor. And as everyone who has been to a wedding at Voewood knows - their ain't know party like a Voewood Party!🤦

Here’s just a few frames from their special day – enjoy!

Another Voewood Wedding

Another Voewood wedding! I'm a lucky boy. This time on a gorgeous mid-Summer day for Louise and Jonny.

This was one of the smaller weddings I have done at Voewood but the people had more than enough personality, fun and laughter to fill the place.

I've written about how much I love visiting Voewood plenty of times and I can't wait to go back in 2018 and 2019! If you're planning a wedding at Voewood - look me up! Enjoy!

A Voewood Wedding | Elisabeth & Simon

Voewood Wedding Photography

Voewood has been a home from home this wedding season - it's been a couple of months though since I was last there and I'm feeling a little homesick! And so I took to reminiscing over Elisabeth and Simon's wonderful Voewood wedding in North Norfolk this afternoon. Here's a few of my favourite photographs from their day.

When I arrived at Voewood, preparations were busily getting underway. The main hall, under the watchful eye of David Bowie, was being decorated with balloons. Elisabeth and her bridal party were in the honeymoon suite having their hair and make-up done and Simon was busily playing pool!

Quirky Wedding Venue

Elisabeth and her bridal party were getting ready in one of the lightest rooms in the house. A Country Life article in 1909 described Voewood thus: 'Everywhere there is sweetness and light ' add to that a great sense of space, numerous quirky little features and the most eclectic decor and you have one of the best alternative wedding venues around. One of my favourite things about Voewood is the light and space and the fact that more often than not, the Bride and Groom can both get ready at Voewood and not risk bumping into each other, such is the size of the place!

My Favourite Moments

Two of my favourite photos on this particular day were of Elisabeth's mum and dad. They are pictures of pure joy upon seeing her for the first time in her wedding dress!

It was a perfect day all in all, an absolute dream wedding. Simon waited nervously by the inglenook fireplace in the main hall as Elisabeth, escorted by her proud father, came up the aisle to meet him. The love in their eyes, as they met for the first time that morning, still makes my heart melt.

Following a beautiful ceremony, a truly great gathering of friends and family, helped the Voewood party house truly come to life.

A huge pleasure to have been a part of this day. A massive and heartfelt thanks to the #sillystodel - enjoy.

Voewood Wedding Photography

Voewood is an exceptional venue, a deservedly award winning venue, there is nothing quite like it in the rest of the county. Many venues claim to be unique, Voewood truly is and it's an absolute gem of a place to photograph a wedding. There are so many nooks and crannies to explore and even though I have been there three times this year, I don't think I would ever get bored of the place! It's a venue that always lends itself to very laid back couples who just want to have a great big party to celebrate their wedding day, just how it should be! I can't wait to go back again and each of these weddings will hit the blog soon but for now here's a little taster of some Voewood wedding photography from the year so far, with a massive thanks to Louise & Jonny, Amy & Greg and Elisabeth & Simon - enjoy!

VOEWOOD HOUSE WEDDING | ALICE & LAWRENCE

VOEWOOD WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

I was really excited when Alice and Laurence booked me to be the photographer for their wedding at Voewood House. Voewood had been on my bucket list for a little while.

Laurence and Alice both work in creative industries and it's easy to see why they were drawn to Voewood for their wedding. It's an extremely cool and charismatic venue, nestled away on the outskirts of Holt in North Norfolk. It's an arts and crafts treasure trove and a place with so many nooks and crannies that you could spend weeks playing hide and seek and still find somewhere new to explore. A more sunning backdrop to a wedding in North Norfolk is hard to find.

The entire day was spent at Voewood from the preparations, with the lovely Paula and Michelle from Amanda Steed Bridal Hair and Make-Up, to the evening celebrations. There was no rushing about whatsoever, making for an incredibly relaxed vibe to the proceedings!

After the ceremony, Laurence and Alice joined me for a short while to make some portraits of the two of them. They were total naturals!

A day packed with fun and laughter, Laurence and Alice and their friends and family were beautiful company to spend the day with. Everybody made the most of the beautiful weather, spending a long afternoon on the lawn, partaking in some classic garden games and some amazing BBQ from the guys at the Smoking Beetle.

After some cracking speeches back in the house and a fish and chip supper (I was seriously well fed!) the evening celebrations were kicked off by the The Top Bananas who were ... urrm .... absolutely top banana. It's been too long since I saw a conga at a wedding (a sentence I never thought I'd write) but they are without a doubt some of the most unique performers I've ever seen at a wedding!

I’m looking forward to returning for more Voewood Wedding Photography again in 2017 but for now, here are some of my faves from Laurence and Alice's incredible day. Thanks to you both for having me guys - enjoy!
