I know how much choice there is when it comes to wedding photography so, it truly means the world to me that you have asked me to capture your day!

The information in this guide is designed to help you through all your photography related questions so you can sit back, relax and get on with enjoying your day!

NATURAL, RELAXED, ROMANTIC

  • A great way to get used to being photographed ahead of the big day. I’d highly recommend this as a chance for us to get to know each other a little better and for you to get used to being in front of the camera. It’s also a great chance to get some truly unique images that can be used as save the dates, signing books, invites or table names etc…all in a location of your choice.
  • Add more personality to your shoot by choosing a location that has meaning for you. Perhaps you would like to have the session where you first met or, shared your first kiss. Maybe your favourite beach or, a cosy cafe.
  • It really is up to you but if you need me to help, whether you have pictured a romantic walk in the woods or, a stroll through the city, I have plenty of suggestions.
  • If you have already booked your pre-wedding photography, then I’ll be in touch to talk dates and locations. It’s usually a good idea to do this at least 2-3 months before your wedding day. On occasion, I my be able to undertake these shoots on a Saturday or Sunday but more typically, these shoots take place Monday-Thursday.
  • Sessions are typically 1-1.5 hours and in order to get the most out of your time in front of the camera, there is a limit of 1-2 locations.
  • Sessions are typically scheduled 2 hours before sunset to make the most of the soft, evening light

WHAT TO WEAR

  • Wear something you’ll be comfortable in but don’t be afraid to get a little dressed up. Accessories – watches, jewellery etc can all look good.
  • Try to avoid colours that clash but also avoid wearing the same colours or else you’ll blend into each other. It’s great to compliment each other in the photos but you don’t need to wear matching outfits. Light coloured and neutral always works well and go for colours that compliment. Something with a little texture and pattern can work well but avoid large logos and prints!
  • Be creative and let your personality shine through!

FUN, JOY, EXCITEMENT

  • Every wedding I shoot is totally different. Ok, so many of the traditions are the same but it’s the people – you, your friends and family – that really make a wedding celebration what it is!
  • Your wedding day will be filled with extraordinary moments – intimate, surprising and at times, downright crazy – my aim is to be there to capture these moments for you, to capture the essence of your wedding day and bottle it for you!
  • Lists can tend to rule our lives, so with the exception of group photos, I like to keep the way I document your day as spontaneous as possible. The most unique photos are often the unplanned ones! All that said, an element of planning isn’t a bad idea.

TIMELINE

  • 6-8 weeks before your wedding day, around the same time that you make your final payment, I’ll send you a questionnaire to get all your details. This will help me to start planning your shoot.
  • 1-2 weeks before your wedding day we’ll chat to confirm the details of your timeline and address any changes or questions. It’s nice to do this over a coffee, most often between Monday-Thursday but if we can’t get our diaries to match, then a phone call or Skype chat works too. We will talk through the running order for your day. This allows me to work out how I’ll approach your day and how best to make my photography work for you. We’ll be able to spot and resolve any potential issues so that everything runs smoothly on the day. Often, this is as simple as finding some time (when the light is just right!) to take you away and enjoy a few quiet moments where I can capture some discrete portraits of you together.
  • Some things to keep in mind when developing your timeline include: How long will it take to get ready (hair, make-up, dress)? How long is your ceremony? Are there any restrictions on photography during your ceremony? How long does it take to travel between your venues? Are you having a cocktail hour and if so, how long will there be for photos before the wedding breakfast?
  • Your Wedding Day! I will use your timeline to guide me but such is the way with weddings that they can tend to go off piste. No matter, I’m used to this and work around it. I’m still there capturing your day and celebrating your day with your friends and family! I take natural, emotional and fun photos of your day and while I will take a few traditional posed photos, I don’t want to keep you and your guests for long, when you should be off dancing, drinking and celebrating. So, with this in mind, I recommend keeping your group shots to 5. This takes about 30 minutes. Any longer than this is likely to be more time than you will want to spend away from socialising with your guests.
  • 8-12 weeks after your wedding your private gallery will be available for you to view your images and share with family and friends. If you have chosen to have an album this will be the stage at which, you make your selection and I can begin to design it. Albums selections should be made within 6 months of receiving your gallery.
  • If you didn’t order an album at the point of booking you can choose to do so at any point, within 12 months after your wedding day.
  • 12-16 weeks after your wedding your USB will be sent to you and I will keep you posted on delivery dates for your album.

ONE OF A KIND

  • As part of the investment you make in me as your wedding photographer, your photographs can be made available to you in a beautiful, hand-made, wedding album from Queensberry.
  • Digital storage has come a long, long way in the last decade and there are many great ways to view and share your photographs with family and friends but an iPad just doesn’t compare to the luxury of one of these albums. As great as that iPad looks now, it’s not likely to be handed down generation to generation. To be fair to the iPad though, unlike a Queensberry, it was never intended to be!
  • You can choose various different cover styles, colours and materials for your album as well as different types of mount and display.
  • Albums can also make a great gift for the in-laws or grandfolk!

THE PROCESS

  • Designing your album is really easy. You choose your favourite images from your gallery. Once you have selected the images and shared them with me, I get on with designing your album. Once it’s ready, I will send you a link to review the design. You can make up to 10 photo changes at no additional charge. There is a two month window in which to view and approve your design. Once you are happy with the album design, it’s a one-click process to let me know and from there, your album will be winging it’s way to you within 2-3 months.

  •  Hair & Make-Up – Please, if you haven’t already, make sure to book someone to do your hair and make-up professionally. You can do this yourself but why not be pampered on your wedding day of all days. It will certainly save you the time and stress! Most people will offer you a trial run to make sure they get it just how you like! Get in touch if you’d like some recommendations!
  • Food and drink – You may not feel like it, especially when the butterflies get the better of you but keeping hydrated and getting some food in ahead of the ceremony is a good idea. It will likely be a long time before you eat again and you’ll need your energy!
  • Talking of food – you don’t absolutely have to feed me but if I am not catered for, please let me know and allow for me to take time away from the venue to go and find a hot meal somewhere. If you do choose to feed me then, thank you, I like food! If possible, please ask your caterer to get around to me sooner rather than later, especially if your speeches are due after the wedding breakfast!
  • Receiving lines – It’s lovely to be able to get a few words and a hug with everyone who attended your wedding and supported your marriage vows but a traditional receiving line usually takes around 45 minutes. It’s a large chunk of time. So, consider if you really need or, want one. At those weddings where it doesn’t happen, there is usually plenty of time between courses to meet and greet. It’s rare that a guest will leave your wedding without coming to say goodbye. We had one at our wedding (on the advice of our venue) and truth be told, it’s the one thing we would have done differently!
  • Cake – Quick time saving tip. Cut your cake before sitting down for your wedding breakfast or, straight after. This gives the caterer time to cut and get it ready for later on and it means you won’t have to take time out of your dancing if you forgot.
  • Time – is often limited. If you want to ensure some alone time for couple portraits, make sure to set it aside. A half hour to 45 minutes after your ceremony and the same again in the evening, will ensure plenty of opportunity for this.
  • Savour it – this day will pass by so quickly but it will be amazing! Relax, let your vendors, wedding planner and/or the friends or, family you have appointed run things. They will take care of you so that all you have left to do is enjoy the party!

It’s just a few things that I’ve learnt over the years and I hope you will find it useful. Of course, if you want to ask any questions at all, you know where to reach me.
