7 Top Tips for a Stress Free Wedding

Tips to Keep Your Wedding Day Drama Free

For many, their wedding is the most important day of their lives so the wedding planning process can bring with it a good deal of stress. But the truth is, you can have your fabulous wedding with none of the stress involved – here’s how:

1.    Don’t sweat the weather

The earlier you come to terms with the fact that neither you, nor your wedding planner has any control over the weather, the smoother, calmer and more enjoyable the planning – and the actual wedding – will become. You'll spend way too much time checking weather reports, weeks out from your wedding but you really shouldn't, it's not going to change anything. What you can do, however, is prepare in advance, especially if you’re having an outdoor wedding.

Norfolk is a rather dry county by all accounts and it's more likely to rain confetti on your wedding day than anything else. Nonetheless, it can have it's fair share of cloudy days and rainy weather so, if you’re working with a Norfolk wedding planner, make sure to see if they can put an extra tent on reserve.

2. A Packed schedule is a no-no

You might be tempted to try and fit your mani-pedi, hair and make-up, bikini wax and a brunch with your girlfriends on the morning of your wedding but that may be a recipe for disaster. Apart from creating additional stress, since everything will need to happen on a tight schedule, filling your day with activities will only make it fly by faster. Enjoy your wedding day and take the time to feel like the most important person in the world – you deserve it! With that in mind, I'd highly recommend hiring a professional hair and make-up artist for your wedding. You will look flawless whether you hire a make-up artist or do it yourself but why not be pampered on your wedding day of all days. They know exactly what you need on the morning of your wedding – so, all you need do is sit back, relax and enjoy. It will certainly save you the time and effort! Most people will offer you a trial run to make sure they get it just how you like. Get in touch if you’d like some recommendations.

3.    Have a photo organiser

A wedding photographer is a must-have for your wedding (ok, I'm biased) but if you’re planning a massive event with all of your friends and family, it is really helpful to have someone to get people together.

Talk with a friend or a relative – ideally, someone who’s familiar with everyone who attends, won't want to hit the bar straight away and isn’t shy. This way you won’t have to spend half an hour trying to find your uni mates and get them all together for a picture. Time on your wedding day is precious, spend it wisely.

4.    Timing is everything ... but be realistic

Time is often limited on a wedding day. It doesn't matter how perfectly you plan your wedding day schedule, most weddings end up running behind at some point during the day. So, build in extra time for each stage. A good rule of thumb is that for every event in the schedule of your day, you should add an extra fifteen minutes contingency. It might sound like a lot over the course of a whole wedding day but you'll be able to relax in the knowledge that your wedding plans will run that little bit smoother and you'll avoids any of the unnecessary stress that comes with plans falling behind. On this point, if you want to ensure some alone time for couple portraits, make sure to set it aside. A half hour after your ceremony and the same again in the evening, will ensure plenty of opportunity for this. Savour it – this day will pass by so quickly but it will be amazing! Relax, let your vendors, wedding planner and/or the friends or, family you have appointed run things. They will take care of you so that all you have left to do is enjoy the party! And if you do end up with some time to spare, it's just more time to relax and enjoy dancing the night away!

5.    Get your beauty sleep

Nerves will almost certainly mean you sleep a little less than usual the night before your wedding. While it may be tempting to stay up until the early hours with your friends, getting enough sleep will help make sure you're glowing for your wedding photography and that you have plenty of energy for your first dance and the party beyond! Before you reach for the tranquillisers, some of the things you can to do to aid your sleep include avoiding caffeine and eating foods that contain tryptophan (here comes the science bit!). Yoghurt, bananas, milk and eggs are all great sources of tryptophan, an amino acid which aids the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone. On the night of my wedding, I was so nervous, I ended up using a guided meditation to help me sleep. It worked like a charm!

6.    Bring three pair of shoes (and maybe some wellies!)

It might sound a little excessive but it’s always better to be prepared. Ideally, you should have a pair of heels, a pair of wedges and a pair of flats for your big day (each can serve as a back-up plan in case your wedding heels break or you need a little rest). If you’re worried about getting blisters, consider rubbing some Band-Aid’s Friction Block Stick on your toes before you put your shoes on. A pair of wedding wellies is also a good idea, just in case!

7.    Remember why you’re doing this

The truth is, it’s very likely that something will go wrong – Norfolk’s weather might surprise you, or your zipper may break, your flower girl might burst into tears… As a bride, however, you dictate the mood and as long as you’re beaming, your guests will be happy as well.

The most important thing is being with the one you love, your friends and your family.Remember why you’re celebrating in the first place and do your best to cherish and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime occasion. In the end, love is all you need!
