Campaign for the Alan Partridge Premiere to be in Norwich

Ruddy hell! It's happening people!  With the news today that the premiere of Alpha Papa will take place in Norwich, it would be remiss of me not to share these images, taken just yesterday, of graffiti art by the guys from the Sith Art Collective inspired by the campaign to have the Alan Partridge Movie premiere in Norwich.  You can head down to, what has quickly become the spiritual home of the campaign, Anglia Square (Not Leicester Square) and see these artworks for yourself! The campaign, launched only a matter of weeks ago on the steps of Norwich City Hall (you can check it out here), has gone from strength to strength with car stickers, placards, posters and T-Shirts daubed with Alan's face and the campaign slogan 'Anglia Square Not Leicester Square', a tagline that has garnered supporters across social media, from public and celebrities alike.  Another local boy, Jake Humphrey, was one of those to encourage his followers to get behind the campaign on Twitter and at the end of last week, Writer and Director, Armando Iannucci, asked, via his Twitter feed "People of Norwich, what are your bargaining tools?"  Today came the announcement that the film will have a Premier in Norwich on July 24th 2013, with Alan in attendance to greet his fans before being flown by helicopter to the London Premiere.  Studio Canal, made the announcement in the form of a 'message from Alan' as follows: “You can imagine how hurt and litigious I felt when people said I was planning to debut my movie in London instead of Norwich, or that I’d allowed my head to be turned by the prospect of big city fame."  "Any suggestions I’ve hastily cobbled together the lunchtime Norwich screening in response to a local Twitter campaign will be met with the full force of the law.”And here's the response from the official campaign:This amazing day has come to an end and will live long in our memories, we have received lots of thank you's & congratulations today but we would like to thank all of YOU for supporting us.Without your support and enthusiasm it wouldn't have got noticed by the powers that be..It all started as a bit of a joke but now it is our time, lets have a good time and show everyone what Norwich is capable of..Night Night xxGiven that Alan is a lover of art, I'm sure he will be pleased with the efforts made at Anglia Square.  As such, I'll leave you with this quote from the great man himself  - "There's never any graffiti in the hotel. Although in the Gents a couple of weeks a go I did see someone had drawn a lady's part. Quite detailed. The guy obviously had talent."By Rob DodsworthSaveSave
