2017 | Moments and Memories

Best of 2017

A few of my faves …

2017 – So, it’s that time of year again. A time to look back on the amazing fun I’ve had photographing moments and memories from some 27 weddings I’ve had the good fortune to play a part in this past year! The video below has a good couple hundred images in it but that’s really just a tiny portion of the tears, smiles, laughter, hugs, kisses, dancing, drinking, more dancing, more drinking, cake cutting, confetti throwing, bouquet tossing, even carousel riding (Phew!) fun that me and my camera captured in 2017. It was another absolute corker of year!

The video above is just 2 minutes and 41 seconds! There’s a good couple of hundred images in it but that’s really just a tiny portion of the tears, smiles, laughter, hugs, kisses, dancing, drinking, more dancing, more drinking, cake cutting, confetti throwing, bouquet tossing, even carousel riding (Phew!) fun that me and my camera captured in 2017!

2018

I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store. I’m looking forward to a whole load of weddings in Norfolk, returning to venues including Narborough Hall, Hautbois Hall, Southwood Hall  and Hush as well as some new venues for me, including a wedding at Keeper and the Dell and Godwick Hall. I’ll also be going out of Norfolk, over the border, into Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, as well as  travelling a little further afield to Yorkshire, Portugal and Mallorca!

There’s Love Inside …

Thank you so, so much to everyone who has chosen me to be their wedding photographer this past year and to those who have already booked me for their wedding photography for this year and next! I really can’t express how grateful I am to you, it means the world to me! I have, yet again, been made to feel so welcome and have made some wonderful new friends. And thank you all for the kind words too!

I had thousands of images to slim down into this blog post. It’s never an easy task but as ever, I’ve tried to choose images that first and foremost made me smile and which, I hope, will give you an idea of how I work and how I like to tell the story of a wedding day. I’ve truly loved being a part of all the weddings I got to go to this year. Energetic | Authentic | Dedicated | A gift we can truly treasureJust some of the words used to describe my photography and an approach that has resulted in many happy clients. If you like what you see, if they make you smile too and you’re getting married this year or next, then get in touch and tell me about your plans.

I’m off to pack for a pre-wedding shoot tomorrow. So, all that’s left for now is to wish you a happy New Year and until the next time – enjoy!

A wedding at Langley Abbey near Norwich

A Langley Abbey Wedding

Wedding Photography at Langley Abbey, Norfolk

I knew this wedding at Langley Abbey would be a fun one to photograph and I was so right – from arriving with Mandy and her bridesmaids in the morning, to hanging out with Kyle and his groomsmen, while they tried to control some restless children, as they waited for a very late bride ... my latest ever but I'm sure Kyle agrees, it was worth the wait! Their ceremony was beautiful, Kyle could hardly take his eyes off his bride and Mandy was all smiles! Parents, Grandparents, aunties and uncles all brimming with pride as her brother walked Mandy down the aisle to a beaming Kyle. There was so much love and joy in the room! Full of smiles, Prosecco and covered in confetti the newlyweds enjoyed a wonderful wedding breakfast (Brasteds dining is second to none!) and some amazing speeches. My cheeks hurt by the end of them from all the laughter and smiles! From beginning to end the rooms were lit up by the people in them, including the fantastic Mike Savory, Kyle and Mandy's wedding videographer. A great day all around, it was a true joy to capture their special day. Thanks Mandy and Kyle - I can't wait to put your album together for you!

If you are having a wedding at Langley Abbey, get in touch, it would be great to hear what you have been planning - enjoy!

Georgian Townhouse Wedding photography

The Georgian Townhouse Wedding of Edwina & Mark

When Edwina told me she was getting hitched, I knew I wanted in. She and Mark had planned a Georgian Townhouse wedding in Norwich and it was bound to be one heck of a party! Anyone who knows Edwina knows that she is far from the shy and retiring type!

The day began at the Georgian Townhouse for bridal prep with Edwina and her bridesmaid, Jo and Flamingo Amy on hair and make-up! Later on, I joined Mark and his friends at the pub in Trowse for a few drinks (them not me ... promise!) before a beautiful ceremony at their local church. Later, a cab ride to the Plantation Garden for a little wander, loads of snogging (again ... them not me!) and some portraits, then back to the Georgian Townhouse for the rest of the days celebrations! Edwina's eldest son absolutely nailed the speech giving, the Groom and his Best Men certainly had a hard act to follow. (NB That isn't really a picture of a minor, drinking wine straight from the bottle, I'm assured the bottle contained nothing more than Ribena!)

Following the speeches, it was onto the dancing! The floor filled almost immediately and stayed that way through the night, with occasional nudity, toilet roll Limbo, a glitter bar and some more occasional nudity, just for good measure! My camera is still covered in glitter!

An absolutely fantastic wedding and a pleasure to meet up with some familiar faces. A huge thanks to Edwina and Mark for choosing me to capture such an amazing day!

Old Hall Ely Wedding Photography

Wedding Photography at the Old Hall Ely

Cambridgeshire Wedding Photography at the Old Hall, Ely

This wedding at the Old Hall, Ely, an amazing wedding venue near Cambridge, saw Sherrie and David get married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony, in front of family and friends, on an absolutely gorgeous late Summer's day.

Having never been to the Old Hall myself, I arrived early to take a good look around before the celebrations got going. What a stunning location! You can see for miles around and as you approach the Old Hall from the top of the drive, you are treated to a spectacular view of Ely Cathedral.

Having been for a wander around, enjoying the views and some of the sunshine, I joined Sherrie and her bridal party as they put the finishing touches to the reception marquee. A balloon or two may have gone astray but all were in place by the time the wedding breakfast and speeches commenced and the place looked fantastic.

"Expert at capturing the moment!... If you want loads of little special moments of emotion captured in award winning photos, Rob’s your photographer! An absolute pleasure to have at our wedding and blended in effortlessly as if he was a guest that everyone had known for years. We can’t recommend Rob enough!!"

An outdoor Wedding Ceremony in Cambridgeshire

Full of smiles and shedding a good number of tears, this bride and groom were clearly feeling the emotion. Hugs, kisses and congratulations followed, before a short wander around the grounds of the Old Hall for some portraits of the happy couple.

There were plenty more (happy) tears and laughter throughout the rest of the day, with a series of speeches that really tugged on the heart strings and had me wiping tears from my eyes more than once.

The evenings entertainment unfolded, the Prosecco flowed and Sherrie and David cut their cake (in front of some people excited to have the first taste) before a seriously romantic first dance and later, a cracking game of Mr and Mrs - queue more tears of laughter!

As ever, thank you to the bride and groom, Sherrie and David, for choosing me to capture their day - it was perfect - enjoy!

Voewood Wedding Photography

A Voewood Wedding | Elisabeth & Simon

Voewood Wedding Photography

Voewood has been a home from home this wedding season – it’s been a couple of months though since I was last there and I’m feeling a little homesick! And so I took to reminiscing over Elisabeth and Simon’s wonderful Voewood wedding in North Norfolk this afternoon. Here’s a few of my favourite photographs from their day.

When I arrived at Voewood, preparations were busily getting underway. The main hall, under the watchful eye of David Bowie, was being decorated with balloons. Elisabeth and her bridal party were in the honeymoon suite having their hair and make-up done and Simon was busily playing pool!

Quirky Wedding Venue

Elisabeth and her bridal party were getting ready in one of the lightest rooms in the house. A Country Life article in 1909 described Voewood thus: ‘Everywhere there is sweetness and light ‘ add to that a great sense of space, numerous quirky little features and the most eclectic decor and you have one of the best alternative wedding venues around. One of my favourite things about Voewood is the light and space and the fact that more often than not, the Bride and Groom can both get ready at Voewood and not risk bumping into each other, such is the size of the place!

My Favourite Moments

Two of my favourite photos on this particular day were of Elisabeth’s mum and dad. They are pictures of pure joy upon seeing her for the first time in her wedding dress!

It was a perfect day all in all, an absolute dream wedding. Simon waited nervously by the inglenook fireplace in the main hall as Elisabeth, escorted by her proud father, came up the aisle to meet him. The love in their eyes, as they met for the first time that morning, still makes my heart melt.

Following a beautiful ceremony, a truly great gathering of friends and family, helped the Voewood party house truly come to life.

A huge pleasure to have been a part of this day. A massive and heartfelt thanks to the #sillystodel – enjoy.

A Chilled Out Pre-Wedding Shoot at Home in Norwich

Pre-wedding photography in Norwich

Manon and Dave are friends of a couple whose wedding I photographed in Summer last year.  These guys, like their friends, were nothing short of amazing - really lovely company to spend the day with and they wined and dined me too! What could be better than that?

If you'd like to know more then check out this page for details about pre-wedding photography but otherwise dive on in!

This pre-wedding shoot happened almost a year ago now. That has flown by! It took place at their apartment in Norwich. A stunning space to photograph in. Dave put some of their favourite tunes on the turntable and he and Manon enjoyed some brunch followed by a lazy afternoon, reading and cosying up on the sofa. It was a really relaxed in-home session and I couldn’t have spent it with a lovelier couple.

Sadly, I won’t be there for their wedding. It’s in France and I’ll be photographing a wedding in Mallorca. As much as I’d love to be in two places at once, I’ve not figured out a way to do it … yet! But I’m so glad I got to meet these two anyway. Many thanks to Nicola and Joe for recommending me (Nicola and Joe's Hautbois Hall wedding is on the link!).

And to Manon and Dave, thanks so much for inviting me into your home. It was an absolute pleasure - enjoy!

Norfolk Mead Wedding Photography

A Wedding at the Norfolk Mead

A wedding at the Norfolk Mead is always good fun. It's a boutique hotel wedding venue in Coltishall, just a short drive outside of Norwich. The food  and drink are amongst some of the best in Norfolk and being set in the beautiful Norfolk Broads it's a very popular Norwich wedding venue.

Louise and Charles got married in Buxton Church before heading to the Norfolk Mead for their wedding reception. An absolutely wonderful couple and a great group of people to hang out with. This was the second wedding for me in as many days (after a Suffolk Wedding on the Friday) and the crowd and the party saw me going strong throughout.

Here's just a few photos from their big day - enjoy!

Boathouse Wedding in Norfolk

Boathouse Wedding Photography, Norwich

The Boathouse is one of the most popular wedding venues in Norfolk. If you love the Norfolk Broads and spectacular views, then this wedding venue could be just what you're looking for!

I first met Lauraine and Matt at a wedding fair and after a couple of drinks together and a pre-wedding shoot, I must say I was really looking forward to their wedding! They're such an easy going couple and I knew that their day was going to be great fun.

It was a wonderful outdoor ceremony, including a boat trip, barbecue food, drinks overlooking Ormesby Broad and later in the evening, Lauraine and Matt took a row on the broad together as the sun began to set!

Fantastic, heartfelt speeches and a party rocked by the incredible Joe Ringer Band, this was a wedding that will stay long in my memory!

An amazing day in a fantastic, special location. It would not have mattered where Lauraine and Matt chose to got married, they and their friends and family would have had the perfect day almost anywhere but having it at the Boathouse was the icing on the proverbial cake, the actual cake was also pretty good!

If you're planning a wedding at the Boathouse, get in touch and tell me more - enjoy the pics!
