A Keeper and the Dell Wedding

Rachel and Andy’s wedding was such an incredible day to be a part of, made no less so for being able to catch up to, Laurs and Matt, a bride and groom whose wedding I photographed a few years ago, as well as some of their same friends and family.

Rachel and Andy got married in an outdoor ceremony at Keeper and the Dell - an idyllic woodland setting not far from Norwich in Norfolk. They both looked absolutely amazing. Andy dressed in a sharp suit and shades and his beyond stunning bride in her Jimmy Choos - a gorgeous pair of strappy high heels - tea length wedding dress and a colourful floral headpiece perfectly matched to her bouquet!

"Thank you so much for capturing the day perfectly, it really was like having another friend at the wedding. ūüėä Your amazingly shot pictures will keep the memories of our wedding alive for years to come. Anyone looking for a photographer, look no further Rob Dodsworth is a must! Xx"

The day was one of the most relaxed weddings I have ever had the pleasure to be a part of and tradition was well and truly out the window which, is precisely what the couple had planned and hoped for! The Keeper and the Dell most certainly lends itself to that kind of vibe. Drinks were served pre-ceremony, while the Bride and Groom mingled with their guests for a good hour or so before they tied the knot. With everyone in good spirits and the sun shining bright, guests took their seats for an informal ceremony, conducted by Andy’s dad and Rachel’s brother. You can see from the photos how much fun they had with it!

After the ceremony, there was plenty more fun and games, lots more drinking and dancing to tunes by Miserable Man, who was anything but!

There were no formal speeches, receiving lines or, cake cutting, Rachel and Andy took to the balcony to thank everyone for coming but otherwise the day really was as free-wheeling as it is possible to be - the band playing late into the night as the party, I’m sure continued ’til the early hours!

A fantastic day to be able to play a part in, I was treated just like an old friend and I would not have wanted to be anywhere else.

Thanks you so, so much Rachel and Andy - wishing you all the happiness and I hope you’ll enjoy your photos for many years to come!

Bride and groom on the dance floor at voewood

Amy & Greg's Voewood Wedding

A Voewood Wedding in North Norfolk

Before we begin, it's only fair I pay credit to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and S Club 7 for their respective influences to the copy in this here blog post! Two bands, I'm fairly sure, aren't often mentioned in the same breath. I'm not ashamed to say I am a bit partial to both of them. And my eclectic taste in music works well here, for, it is to Voewood we go today. A wedding venue in Norfolk that is, most certainly, a little eclectic itself!

Ok... so it's no secret that I love Voewood! It's beyond exceptional. It's kooky, quirky, whimsical and wonderful and many other superlatives beside. It's a place I never tire of returning to. Not far from the North Norfolk coast and the Georgian town of Holt, it's a country house like no other. You honestly have to see it to believe it. And so, when, in 2017, no less than 3 couples chose me to capture their wedding at this extraordinary wedding venue, I was absolutely thrilled.

On Amy and Greg's big day I was joined by Videographer extraordinaire, Mike, from Capture Media. We began with the bride and her bridesmaids in the bridal suite at Voewood, spirits were high and Amy's sister entertained us all, to help Amy with a few nerves.

Afterward, Mike and I made our way to join the groom and groomsmen at a pub near the church. Unfortunately, there was no time for us to grab a pint on this occasion, there was already so much going on and we both set straight to capturing it.

The sun was certainly shining on this bride and groom for their big day, streaming through the windows of the house and their church and adding to the atmosphere as they exchanged their vows in front their friends and family.

As the bells rang out from the Church of the Annunciation, on Friday Market in Little Walsingham (picture perfect this was!), Amy and Greg got into a¬†1960 Ford Zephyr Mk. II Convertible, an amazing set of wheels in which to be transported back to Voewood. And as they flew away on their Zephyr, I'm fairly sure they felt it more than ever and in that perfect weather, they found a place together¬†ūüėú

Dashing off ahead of the new Mr and Mrs I got back to Voewood to set up ready for their arrival. The house and gardens looked stunning and Amy and Greg, their friends and family made the most of the dry weather and we made a few portraits outside as they were entertained to the sounds of a jazz band! Drinks on the lawn followed before some cracking speeches and the most wonderful food laid on by Florentina Events, before the evenings entertainment ensued and the couple took to the dance floor. And as everyone who has been to a wedding at Voewood knows - their ain't know party like a Voewood Party!ūü§¶

Here‚Äôs just a few frames from their special day ‚Äď enjoy!

Bride and Groom at Bressingham Hall Wedding in Norfolk

A Norfolk Wedding

"Rob they are awesome. So completely overwhelmed. They really are amazing. You are a star. Ahhhhhg"

Kate and Liam's wedding ceremony took place in the village Kate grew up, near Diss in Norfolk. A crisp, sunny autumn day, I joined the girls at home for the bridal preparations before the short journey to the village church to join the boys. The church was beautiful, with light flooding every corner, it made for a stunning setting.

It was a fun and emotional wedding and the happy couple got so swept up in proceedings that they ended up having two first kisses, having jumped the gun the first time round. Hugs, kisses and confetti followed before Kate and Liam went for a ride around the countryside in a classic Bentley.

Wedding Photographer at Bressingham Hall

Bressingham Hall and High Barn is a fabulous Norfolk wedding venue, set amongst the world renowned Bressingham Gardens and located on the border of Norfolk and Suffolk. The gardens were a joy to work in and in between showers, we got some great portraits of the bride and groom as they spent some time laughing and joking together. The laughter along with tears of joy, continued throughout the afternoon as the wedding guests enjoyed a series of brilliant speeches.

All the fun of the Fair

As the evening approached, guests were treated to some olde world fairground thrills on Bressignham's Gallopers, a carousel of sorts which brought a smile to everyone's face, no matter their age! Later in the evening, after the cake was cut, Kate and Liam took to the dance floor to their favourite song, Elbow's "A Day Like This". They were surprised by their Best Man who had arranged for Guy Garvey himself to record his congratulations and announce them on to the dance floor - amazing!

I loved being a wedding photographer at this wedding. It was an incredibly special day with a really laid back group of friends and family, just the type of wedding I enjoy. So, a massive thanks to Liam and Kate for inviting me to be part of their special day. It was an absolute pleasure to play a part in and I hope you love your wedding photos - enjoy!

Update February 2018: Kate and Liam's nuptials were featured on So You're Getting Married! Here's what editor Phoebe had to say about it:

"Rob’s style feels exceptionally authentic and as if he simply blended in to the day. A perfect choice if you don’t want overly posed images"

Thanks Phoebe!¬†ūüėä

Sussex-Barns-47

A WEDDING AT SUSSEX BARN

Wedding Photography at Sussex Barn, North Norfolk

Polly and Alex were married at Sussex Barn in North Norfolk. It was the second trip there for me in as many months, having photographed another wedding at Sussex Barn in September.

The morning began with the girls getting ready at the White House. The atmosphere was relaxed when I first arrived but people soon began busying around as the ceremony drew nearer. I spent my time between bridal preparations and the guests arriving to greet Alex at Sussex Barn, before Polly alighted a sidecar with her dad and were driven by a Yamaha XJ650 (I'm told the one that appeared in Never Say Never Again - although Q has since removed its capability to fire rockets) to join Alex at the top of the aisle.

Polly and Alex could hardly take their eyes of one another all day and there were some really tender and loving moments during their ceremony.

After some wonderful speeches, the newlyweds were surprised by a number of their guests joining together to form a choir and sing to them. Later on, they were serenaded by Polly's best friend as they took to the floor for their first dance. Polly and Alex told me that friends and family having a good time was key to their day and they booked me because they wanted informal candids of them enjoying themselves. The day was full of genuinely beautiful and heartfelt moments - it was really lovely to see how much their friends and family cared about them and how much they wanted to make their day extra special. I might have had a lump or two in my throat!

It was a grey, wet and dull day outside but far from a dull wedding - it was full of the warmth and love of their friends and family. I am so pleased to have been able to play my part in their celebrations. Thank you Polly and Alex for choosing me to capture it - enjoy!

Another Voewood Wedding

Another Voewood wedding! I'm a lucky boy. This time on a gorgeous mid-Summer day for Louise and Jonny.

This was one of the smaller weddings I have done at Voewood but the people had more than enough personality, fun and laughter to fill the place.

I've written about how much I love visiting Voewood plenty of times and I can't wait to go back in 2018 and 2019! If you're planning a wedding at Voewood - look me up! Enjoy!

A wedding at Langley Abbey near Norwich

A Langley Abbey Wedding

Wedding Photography at Langley Abbey, Norfolk

I knew this wedding at Langley Abbey would be a fun one to photograph and I was so right ‚Äď from arriving with Mandy and her bridesmaids in the morning, to hanging out with Kyle and his groomsmen, while they tried to control some restless children, as they waited for a very late bride ... my latest ever but I'm sure Kyle agrees, it was worth the wait! Their ceremony was beautiful, Kyle could hardly take his eyes off his bride and Mandy was all smiles! Parents,¬†Grandparents, aunties and uncles all brimming with pride as her brother walked Mandy down the aisle to a beaming Kyle. There was so much love and joy in the room!¬†Full of smiles, Prosecco and covered in confetti the newlyweds enjoyed a wonderful wedding breakfast (Brasteds dining is second to none!) and some amazing speeches. My cheeks hurt by the end of them from all the laughter and smiles! From beginning to end the rooms were lit up by the people in them, including the fantastic Mike Savory, Kyle and Mandy's wedding videographer. A great day all around, it was a true joy to capture their special day. Thanks Mandy and Kyle - I can't wait to put your album together for you!

If you are having a wedding at Langley Abbey, get in touch, it would be great to hear what you have been planning - enjoy!

Georgian Townhouse Wedding photography

The Georgian Townhouse Wedding of Edwina & Mark

When Edwina told me she was getting hitched, I knew I wanted in. She and Mark had planned a Georgian Townhouse wedding in Norwich and it was bound to be one heck of a party! Anyone who knows Edwina knows that she is far from the shy and retiring type!

The day began at the Georgian Townhouse for bridal prep with Edwina and her bridesmaid, Jo and Flamingo Amy on hair and make-up! Later on, I joined Mark and his friends at the pub in Trowse for a few drinks (them not me ... promise!) before a beautiful ceremony at their local church. Later, a cab ride to the Plantation Garden for a little wander, loads of snogging (again ... them not me!) and some portraits, then back to the Georgian Townhouse for the rest of the days celebrations! Edwina's eldest son absolutely nailed the speech giving, the Groom and his Best Men certainly had a hard act to follow. (NB That isn't really a picture of a minor, drinking wine straight from the bottle, I'm assured the bottle contained nothing more than Ribena!)

Following the speeches, it was onto the dancing! The floor filled almost immediately and stayed that way through the night, with occasional nudity, toilet roll Limbo, a glitter bar and some more occasional nudity, just for good measure! My camera is still covered in glitter!

An absolutely fantastic wedding and a pleasure to meet up with some familiar faces. A huge thanks to Edwina and Mark for choosing me to capture such an amazing day!

If you are looking for a Georgian Townhouse wedding photographer, get in touch, I'd love to hear about your plans - enjoy!

A wedding ceremony at Sussex Barn in North Norfolk

Sussex Barns Wedding Photography

A Wedding at Sussex Barn in North Norfolk

Welcome to the Sussex Barn wedding of Sarah and Mike. The day started for me at Sarah's childhood home, near Kings Lynn. The house was full of photos of the family through the years. One of my favourite photos was of Sarah's dad looking like a "mad scientist", a little like "Doc" Brown from Back to the Future and he's still quite the character! Looking at these photographs, Sarah told me some great stories and it was clear how important my photography would be in adding to these memories and to their family's photographic record. That's what makes being a wedding photographer so special. I want to say thank you to the family and Sarah's bridesmaids for making me feel so welcome and part of the group that morning.

Following on from some time with the Sarah and her bridesmaids, I made the journey to Sussex Barn in Burnham Market, through the beautiful North Norfolk countryside. Mike and his groomsmen were enjoying a few pre-wedding drinks and making some last minute preparations. Wedding guests began to arrive, slowly at first but then the venue atmosphere really got going, with people hugging, laughing and catching up to each other.

The ceremony was a beauty. Sarah arrived looking absolutely amazing, her dad beaming with pride, as he took by the arm and walked her up the aisle. At the top of the aisle, Sarah drew in a deep breath, of nervous anticipation, but from then on in, she and Mike were all smiles. It was an honour to be there and through my photography to show what they are together, to show their love for each other and that of their friends and family. Sarah and Mike (Dave!) thanks so much for choosing me to join you - enjoy!

NARBOROUGH HALL GARDENS | A NORFOLK WEDDING

Narbrough Hall Wedding Photography

A fine summers day, fine people and an absolutely  stunning venue, in Narborough Hall Gardens, made Laura and Simon's one of my favourite weddings this year! Laura started out with her hair and makeup at home, before moving onto the splendour of Narborough Hall to get into her dress and enjoy a glass of champagne or two! Rain threatened and there was a rumour that the registrar planned to talk to Laura about bringing the ceremony indoors. Instead, I stole her away for a few bridal portraits thus, avoiding any such conversation. A whispered prayer to the man upstairs and the rain clouds parted and Laura and Simon were married by the water under a beautiful floral arch! The weather only improved from there on in and I captured some gorgeous portraits of the happy couple in the late evening light. These guys even chose to delay their dessert to allow me the opportunity to do this and I love them for it!

We hired Rob as our wedding photographer and I honestly cannot rate him enough!

I was nervous about the photos and had even contemplated not hiring a professional photographer as I genuinely do not like having my photo taken. However, from the moment Rob arrived, his laid back approach and great sense of humour instantly put me at ease. He worked his socks off and I can actually say, for the first time in my life, I enjoyed having my photo taken. Myself and my husband have both since said that it felt like he was another one of our friends that we were spending the day with and added to our wedding experience, which is more than we could have hoped for. Thank you, we appreciate it no end!

- Laura & Simon

An absolutely fantastic day and an absolutely fantastic venue. I'm returning to Narborough Hall in 2018 and if you're planning a wedding at Narborough Hall too, then I'd love to hear from you!

A wedding ceremony at Hush in Norfolk

A Norwich Wedding at Hush Venues

A Tipi Wedding at Hush Venues in Norwich

Lisa and Tom's Tipi Wedding at Hush Wedding Venues in Norwich was all about love, fun and colour. There was plenty of each! I was really excited for their outdoor wedding, not least because this woodland wedding venue is just down the hill from me (yes ... a hill in Norfolk. Ok, more of a slight decline from Brundall to Postwick but you get the picture) but because they are a truly lovely couple and were a great laugh!

Hush Venues is a fantastic space for a DIY Wedding in Norfolk and it looked amazing. Just a few miles outside Norwich, it's a countryside, outdoor wedding venue that Lisa and Tom, absolutely, put their own stamp on! It was a really relaxed day, a great gathering of friends and family just enjoying being together, catching up, laughing, drinking and just generally having a really great time and then more drinking and lots of dancing!

It was truly a wonderful wedding to be a part of. Lisa and Tom are absolutely made for each other and their connection shone through in their wedding photos. It couldn't have been a better day!

A massive thank you to Lisa and Tom for having me along for the ride, it was a real pleasure -enjoy!
